I didn’t sleep very well on Sunday night, waking up in the early hours feeling very much awake. Unfortunately, I also managed to wake up Phil so in the end we decided to switch on the light and read for an hour or so. We switched back off and Phil went straight back to sleep and I was almost there, when the larger louts that are living above us came back after partying and fell into their stack of beer bottles when they rolled into their apartment at 5am. Oh dear, I tried hard to go back to sleep but it didn’t happen, so I crept out leaving Phil softly snoring and went to read in the lounge.
It was another cloudy, overcast day on Monday. Phil worked on his book whilst I pottered around tidying up but mid-morning we walked down the hill stopping off at Manhattan’s for coffee and internet access. It really is frustrating not having any Wi-Fi on site and I felt bad going into Manhattan’s, using their internet and only ordering a coffee. After the internet was done and coffee was drunk, we walked down to the bottom of the hill and along the beach towards the heart of Los Christianos. Our mission was to find a restaurant called La Taverna that we’d stumbled across when we came to Tenerife in January. We had a good lunch there one day which I think we wrote about at the time. Anyway, we both had an idea where this restaurant was, but could we find it? We walked round in circles for an hour and a half and then I spotted a familiar street and sure enough, there was our restaurant. But, would you believe it, bloody place was closed. This didn’t please Phil, nor me for that matter, we were starving. We ended up eating Italian tapas in a little bar on one of the back streets. I only like good tapas but this was very average and nothing to write home about.
Monday afternoon Phil wrote and I sunbathed by the pool; I managed a couple of hours but the sun couldn’t make its mind up so I gave up in the end. We showered and changed and then walked down to the Beverley Hills Club to meet Dave & Eva for Happy Hour. Dave & Eva are timeshare owners staying next door at the Hollywood Mirage and we got talking to them outside our complex. Dave & Eva brought 2 timeshare weeks at the Mirage five years ago and because of the maintenance charges now want to sell. From what I’ve read on the web, owners can’t give away their timeshares at the moment but I really hope Dave & Eva manage to get rid of their weeks; they’re such a nice couple.

We had a couple of beers at the Beverley Hills Club even though it turned out not to be Happy Hour and then Dave & Eva invited us to their 1 bed deluxe apartment for a drink. Of course we jumped at the chance not least because we were enjoying their company, but I also wanted to see inside a Mirage deluxe. It was very nice indeed, 2 bathrooms, a king-size bed and a much superior kitchen and furnishings than our 1 bed. We took our drinks out to the patio and wiled away a couple of hours and I’m rather afraid that we outstayed our welcome as it was nearly half eight when we said adios mon amigos and made our way home.

Tuesday was another lazy day; breakfast, writing, reading and then we caught the courtesy bus into town. We were a little confused as to where we actually were when we were dropped off but soon quickly sussed out the port and headed back into the centre. We’d invited Dave & Eva to join us for lunch at the La Taverna on Thursday so thought we ought to try lunch first to make sure it was just as good as we remembered it. We found it no problems this time but would you Adam and Eve it, damn place was closed again! This time there was a big sign on the door. From what we could make out the restaurant is actually closed per se until the 25th of May. Obviously we are not destined to eat here. We walked back and stopped off at an unremarkable bar and had another mediocre meal, and then we caught a taxi home. Thankfully the sun was out in full force so I took me and my book down to the pool leaving Phil to write for 6 hours solid. Last night was cheese, salad and pate followed by some TV and another early night.
Today is the day of the dreaded timeshare presentation. We had a call yesterday afternoon changing the time of our slot once again. Phil was pretty pissed at this but there is not a lot we can do. Saying “no can do” is not an option; non-attendance could mean we risk having to pay for our accommodation. I keep thinking to myself that its only 1 day in my life and that it can’t be anywhere near as terrible as our timeshare experience in Las Vegas. Or can it???? I will let you know tomorrow!
