PK and CK in a KK Sunset; Sod the Tiger

Its been a long day to day so I won’t be saying much.  Last night we popped over to our little wine shop across the road for supplies and ended up drinking them there and sharing a nice meal of lemon chicken, sweet and sour king prawns and Penang fried rice.  I loved the wibbly wobbly wine glasses.  The owner and his wife joined us and we ended up going home at around midnight.  Although they looked young, they were both older than me and Claire found a new friend who showed her some keep fit moves.  So Did I, Bobo the dog.

I bought some snacks for the flight, Satay broad beans; you don't get those back home.  They were surprisingly good; they will be selling them everywhere soon.

We woke up at 6am even before the alarm at 6.30am and finished our cornflakes off.  Our taxi took us to the airport as arranged and the flight took off around on time.  We arrived at our hotel at about 2.30pm and we were pleased with out sea view from the 8th floor.  We dumped our bags off and headed into town along the coast.  Its a lovely sunny but very hot and humid day here at Kota Kinabalu, known as KK.  We had to walk for about 20 minutes past lots of market stalls and bizarrely, a long row of sowing machines with machinists waiting to mend anything you like.
We stopped at a little restaurant with a nice sea view and decking and ordered a drink.  I couldn’t believe it when the waiter brought a menu; it was the Thai Orchid that we had settled for without realizing it.  It had the best rating from trip advisor restaurants in KK and I intended to try it anyway.  What a treat, chicken green curry, Penang beef and fresh steamed rice, yummy!  All washed down with a nice cold Tiger beer watching the boats go by.  We got chatting to a young English couple around 22 years old and ended up staying there to watch the beautiful sunset.  Not cheap, but really good cooking.
We wandered along the beach still watching the sun setting then found an ATM and supermarket for some more supplies.  Money just slips through your fingers in Malaysia.  We arrived back on the 8th floor to be able to watch the sunset all over again from our new elevated position.

We were expecting to be able to get wifi from our room thats one of the reasons we chose this hotel called Gaya Resort.  Only wifi in the lobby and on the 4th floor.  Why the fourth floor?  Claire went to investigate while i had a well needed shower.  Im now typing this from the terrace in the restaurant on the fourth floor, and guess what?  They have a promotion on at the moment and Heineken Beer is only 2 Ringitts a can; thats 40p in real money!  Sod the Tiger.

  1. I love that picture. How did you time it to get that huge Marlin jumping out of the water?

  2. I think it must have been the satay broad beans or the Tiger that made it jump.
