Let the New Year Begin

Well, we certainly saw 2010 out in style but more about that in a minute! On New Years Eve in the afternoon, after persuading Phil to shower and get out of his pyjamas we went to Cineworld to watch 'Little Fockers'. I admit it was my choice of film but Phil and I thoroughly enjoyed it, in fact we both though its the best Focker movie of them all. Definitely worth a trip to the cinema and we came out of the cinema chuckling. It put us in the mood for a party and after getting dressed up in our glad rags, Mads and Steve picked us up and we all went to Robinsons to celebrate the new year with a special dinner dance.

As usual, Angela & Daren put on a spectacular party. They had done the restaurant out in black and white festive balloons and the table layout was very stylish and elegant. The restaurant was fully booked and with the dress code being cocktail, all the guests had made a great effort. The focus of the evening was exquisite food - a gastronome 7 course feast plus coffee and petit fours. And this was followed by great music by DJ Paul Smith. We know Paul and his wife Jill and it was great to see them both again. Another surprise was on the next table to us was our old hairdresser Sep and his wife who'd we'd only once briefly before. Phil & I hadn't seen him for years and whilst I keep thinking I will use Emma's hairdresser, Sep gave me his business card and I will book him in the new year.

Anyway after all 7 courses and I'm afraid to say I hardly touched my food, not because it wasn't delicious because it was wonderful, but I had too much to talk about. Needless to say that as soon as the music started, Mads & I were the first on the dance floor and it wasn't long before everyone followed, even Phil! It's amazing how a bottle of Pinot Grigio can help anaesthatise and I didn't give a second thought to my bruised coccyx! Somehow the night flew by and as usual me Mads, Steve and Phil were the last to leave with Steve dropping us off at home sometime around 3am. Unusually, Harriet the party animal, was already home and we had one last drink before she made us go up the stairs to bed. Party pooper!

It goes without saying that we were feeling rather the worse for ware the next morning, well I say morning loosely because it was banging on for midday by the time we had our breakfast. I wasn't feeling as rough as Phil though, he can't take the pace these days! There was some talk of walking to the cinema but with the grim weather, this idea flew out of the window and it was unanmously agreed that New Years Day would be a duvet day!

Usually I find the start to the new year a little depressing except if I am somewhere hot and sunny and the depression or back to reality kicks in when we arrive home. But this year I feel optimistic, I don't know why. I guess its partly to do with having a great time last night and the fact that Phil has a job and also the fact that we're off to Tenerife next week. As usual for the time of year, I, like the rest of the nation, always make tons of resolutions, which I generally break almost straight away, and this year is no exception.

My new year resolutions for 2011?? Well there are many. Number 1- stop thinking that I am Madonna on the dance floor after 3 glasses of white wine and remembering that I am a sad, middle aged woman that doesn't get out much! Trouble with that one is that in my head I still feel like I am 25. On to Number 2 - give up nicotine forever and stop cadging sneaky puffs from friends or strangers for that matter, again something which ususally happens whilst under the influence. And thats on to Number 4 - try and stick to the 16 units of alcohol which I think is the weekly allowance for girlies. In fact I should add DETOX next week to my list because the amount of food and drink that I've consumed over the festive season is seriously worrying. In fact, adding to hardly any exercise due to my bad back, I'm surprised (and pleased) that I have only put one pound! Unlike Phil who has managed to put on half a stone.

Resolution no 5 is to get me a job; I need a job a) because I need a new car in the Spring, b) because I need to pay off my credit cards) and 3) I need Botox. I've decided this is the year to start work on the boat face. I was thinking it would be present to myself for my 50th I can't put it off any longer. My final resolution is to find me a hobby. Now that Phil has his job, his iPhone4, his iPad and is currently writing a non-fictionl book, he has no time for me so I must find something to amuse myself. I haven't quite decided what this hobby will be yet, I need to do some research on this one.

I am writing my first blog for 2011 on my new notebook, its a lilac Acer mini laptop that Phil kindly brought me for my Christmas box. I have to say that we don't normally bother buying each presents but I think he was feeling guilty about his recent Apple purchases. I'm not complaining mind you, my old laptop was so slow, it was driving me up the wall. I don't have software yet and I do need to buy a portable DVD drive but for now I am able to use Wordpad and I can use the USB ports to download my photographs. Well at least I could if I any had any; last night I left my camera at the restaurant, or at least I am hoping I have. Harriets going to pop in tonight to check for me. Fingers crossed; the photographs I am using are courtesy of Phil. When I manage to relocate my camera I shall post my photo's because there maybe a few good interesting ones!

Nothing left for me to say bar to wish everyone a Happy and Healthy new year. Love the ones you are with and concentrate on the here and now. Don't worry about tomorrow, think about what you have and don't dwell and on that that you don't have. Cheers and let the new year Begin!
